The Vietnamese American High School Alliance of Southern California is ready to kick off a new year! Their first meeting is on Sunday, September 18 at the lovely UVSA Office, 10 AM on the dot. This will be a general body meeting, so everyone is invited! You do not have to be a current member to attend; to learn more though, contact VAHSA’s President Jackqueline at vahsa.jackie@gmail.com.

Expect to meet many student representatives and general members from high schools all over southern California! Get to know the new VAHSA cabinet and meet some of the UVSA staff and members who will also be attending and supporting our younger brothers and sisters!

The Anh Chi Em (ACE) Mentorship Program is proud to announce that we are currently taking applications for mentors. If you want to make an impact on a high school student’s life or become someone’s big brother or sister, then be sure to fill out the attached application by noon on Sunday, December 19th. You can drop off a hard copy of your application in the ACE box at the UVSA office or email a scanned copy to khanh.tran@uvsa.org.

UVSA is hosting its annual College Fair in 2 more weeks! This year, College Fair is going to take place at one of UVSA’s ICC schools: the University of California at Irvine! Here’s everything you need to know about this greatly anticipated event:

Date: Saturday, November 6th, 2010
Time: 10 AM – 3 PM
Location: UC Irvine; Social Science Plaza Lower
Price: FREE! Only parking is $2/hour or $8 all day. Lunch will be provided as well.

If you aren’t familiar with College Fair, it is an annual event UVSA hosts before the college admission deadline rolls around. Parents and all high school students (don’t have to be from VSA or Vietnamese or Asian) can come to get more information, help, and RESOURCES!

Each summer, UVSA hosts 2 summer leadership camps for our members and staff throughout Southern California.  The VAHSA Camp caters to members and staff of the Vietnamese American High Schools Alliance as well as high school students throughout Southern California with the purpose of developing community-minded young leaders, preserve and promote Vietnamese language and culture, and encouraging personal growth.  Similarly, the UVSA Camp caters toward college students who are staff members of VSAs/VSU within the Union with more attention paid toward providing leadership and management skills in order to help the respective schools grow and advance.

As the 2009-2010 Academic Year has ended, schools began their summer break as well as preparing for the new Academic Year. It is not only time to relax, enjoy the summer weather, but it is also time for each school VSA/VSU to create bonds and friendship among its staff through various summertime activities, retreats, etc.
